Comfort & your health
During your massage
Clothing, privacy, pressure and health questions.
Can I ask for lighter pressure?
Yes. Say “Lighter, please,” or ask for more pressure if that is what you prefer. You can ask for an area to be avoided, a pause or a stop at any time.
What should I tell the therapist before starting?
Explain your pressure preference, the areas you want worked on and any areas to avoid. Share relevant injuries, recent surgery, medical conditions and medicines. If you are pregnant or unsure about massage safety, check with your health care provider before booking.
Do I have to talk during the massage?
No. You can request a quiet session. The therapist may still check whether you are comfortable. Speak up whenever you want a change or have a question.
What if I fall asleep?
That can happen during a relaxing session. Let the therapist know if you need anything when you wake up, and take your time getting up afterward.
What should I wear, and will I be covered?
Undress only to a level you are comfortable with, and ask the therapist how the sheet or towel will keep you covered. You can remain dressed for a foot massage with shoes and socks off.
Can massage replace medical care?
No. Massage may help with relaxation and everyday muscle tension, but it is not a substitute for medical care. Ask a health care provider about severe, persistent or unexplained symptoms and whether massage is appropriate for you.
